As you may know, our illustrious CEO Collis Ta’eed began the Netsetter in early 2009. It was his place to talk about startups with the world. After all, after working with him for a couple of years I can say with reasonable certainty that starting new things is his favorite thing to do–just click the little arrow next to the site’s logo and you will see what I mean!

Today we’re rebooting the site with the exciting new design you see here by Rod Blackney and we’re taking it in a new direction. It’s not a complete departure but we’ve certainly made this site useful for a much wider audience.

The new Netsetter is about enabling you to make a living online by teaching you how to do it yourself. Collis has done it, many of us Envato employees did it before coming to work for this great company, and now you can do it too if you read the blog and learn the principles and techniques that will help you profit from your ideas.

You can subscribe via RSS, follow us on Twitter, and submit yourself to the directory of netsetters.

Wallpapers

As has become tradition with new Envato website launches, we’ve got a bunch of wallpapers for you to download and use! There are several computer desktops and one for your iPhone. Download them here.

The Netsetter Directory

Do you fit the description of a netsetter? You should submit yourself to our directory of netsetters. Sign up here!

Thanks to the Team

I’d just like to say thanks to Rod and Derek for getting this great theme together, Joseph Lewis for taking on the tough job of site editor, and Collis for beginning this site in the first place!

I hope you enjoy the site!

Rockable Press has just released Rockstar Presentations: Tips, Techniques and Terrible Truths by author Joseph Lewis. Only $15 in PDF format and $19 for the paperback, this book will guide you through everything you need to know to get started in the world of presentation-giving and hone your skills as an engaging speaker.

Lewis is an experienced writer and veteran of presentations, and is one of our own WorkAwesome writers since launch who has posted regularly on the subject of delivering effective presentations.

Hit the break for more about the book.

From the back blurb:

In Rockstar Presentations, author Joseph Lewis shares tips, tricks and wisdom on public speaking with no fear, no cue cards and no worries!

Whether you’re giving a blockbuster keynote or teaching a handful of co-workers how to do something cool, this book was written for you.

You’ll learn:

Why everything you’ve heard about avoiding stage fright is wrong

How not to fail at PowerPoint

The secret techniques separating awesome presenters from the rest

How you can use the same strategies employed by Abraham Lincoln and Winston Churchill to give great presentations

There’s 138 pages of distilled knowledge in this book, but we haven’t stopped there: we’ve thrown in three PowerPoint presentation templates, created by Lewis, to get you jumpstarted on the road to effective presentations.

It’s been a few weeks since I launched this blog and it’s starting to hit it’s stride. Today thanks to the talented coding skills of Derek from ValenDesigns, the site has a new suit to look sharp in, it also has an updated About page, a new Guest Posts page, and I’ve ported over three old articles I wrote for other sites:

Guerrilla Marketing for StartupsOriginally published over at theFWA back in 2006!

Strategy Games and How They Can Help Your BusinessOriginally published over at ProBlogger back in Jan 2008.

Starting Up in an Economic DownturnOriginally published over at Internet Astronauts not too long ago

With the new content and new theme, the site is starting to feel much more established! Enjoy the new format!

Some time ago after a particularly long string of tweets on my @collis account, someone sent me a twitter message saying “If you have so much to say, get a blog!”. Well I thought about it and 6 months later I’ve decided the mysterious twitterer was right. So today I’m moving in to my new blog The Netsetter!

What Can You Expect

So the blog is going to be about all the things I love thinking about, which basically equates to my work – startups, business online, marketing, design. I like sitting in the bath or in a coffee shop pondering these things and I suspect my very patient wife gets tired of hearing about them … so now my dear reader, that burden falls on you instead!

I’d say I’m going to have a regular posting schedule, but really who knows. I’d also say this will always be a personal blog, but there’s a pretty good chance that at some point I’ll turn it into some sort of business (notice I decided not to use my name as the URL … coincidence, I think not!)

In any case if you’re into the same sorts of things then I hope you enjoy the blog posts and get something out of them!

The Theme

If you’re liking the theme I’m using, you can grab it along with three other colour variations over at ThemeForest’s WordPress Library for just $20. Normally I don’t use off-the-shelf themes as I’m a web designer, but I have to say it was pretty satisfying having a blog up in an hour. Always nice to use your own products and discover they really are worthwhile!
